Kevin Drum does our work for us by highlighting an incident where a U.S. Attorney nearly got fired for trying to prosecute a drug maker who was also a big Republican donor. Al Gonzales’ justice department put a hit out on the guy (i.e., put him on a list of people to be fired) within eight days of him going after the drug maker, who makes OxyContin.
Of course, we don’t know that it was the drug maker who pushed the feds to back down. Maybe it was Rush Limbaugh, who was worried his stash would get too low…
